The Criminal Law Convention on Corruption guides the co-ordinated criminalisation of a large number of corrupt practices. It also aims for improved international co-operation in the prosecution of corruption offences. It is monitored by the "Group of States against Corruption - GRECO".
The United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act(FCPA), enacted in 1977, generally prohibits the payment of bribes to foreign officials to assist in obtaining or retaining business. The FCPA can apply to prohibited conduct anywhere in the world.
The OECD Convention requires signatory countries to enact national laws criminalizing bribery of foreign government officials.
